We have servers in three different data centres on the east coast of Australia. For high performance web sites, dedicated web and database servers make your high performance site look good. For the smaller site, our shared servers are not overloaded to the point that they are slow to respond. We load them lightly to make sure they perform well.

A critical issue for high availability are DNS servers. These are the machines that turn your http://www.example.com/ into a numerical address so the browser can find the server. It is critical that there are several of these and that they are not in the same datacentre. By spreading them out across the Australian Internet landscape, the initial response to the browser is rapid even during times when section of the Internet are having communication troubles.
